Julia is from Austria and studied at Graz, University of Technology. She completed her internship at Scaramuzza Lab in April 2016, studying her Terrain Mapping project. Julia was able to fulfill her planned objectives during the internship.
Did this experience inspire you or enable you to continue your career?
I think that particular question is hard to answer. Of course, such an internship looks good on your CV. In my opinion the contacts I made with other researchers are much more important for me, and I am still in contact with them, regarding the project I did during this internship.
Did your host lab aid the quality of your research ?
Yes, a lot. They not only supported me, but we were working on research questions together and tried to find a solution as team. I really enjoyed and appriciated this integration in the lab group. I had also the chance to visit the Gambardella Lab, which was really interesting for the classification parts in my work.
How do you feel your association with NCCR Robotics has had an overall impact on your studies and future career?
My new employers really appreciated the fact that I did this half year research internship. And the experience I gained during this internship is now really important for the job I am working on.
What are you currently working on and what are your plans for the future ?
I am working for the company in the automotive sector. We produce laser scanner + sensor fusion software and sell it to car makers. Among other use cases, our system supports assisted and autonomous driving. Along with other important features for autonomous driving like lanes, we are tracking other road users and road objects. I am currently working on their classification. Plans for the future: I want to do a PHD study in combination with the company and a university.
